Boyd’s Untethered #53
From afar, you might think that Galveston is a resort town.
But what you find when you live here is that it’s really just a small town… beside the Gulf.
A recent weekend was a great reminder of that.
We started our day at the Oleander Festival listening to our pickleball friend Chuck (he’s the one in the blue Hawaiian shirt) playing in his ukulele band.
Later that day we met him and his wife at a bar/boutique on The Strand to hear Keith and the Palm Trees play. Debbie and Chuck had introduced us to Keith a few weeks ago and we enjoyed that night of music enough to want more.
After dinner, as we walked over to participate in the monthly “art walk”… we stopped to listen to one of the many musical groups playing on the downtown street corners.
And, came to realize the group was made up of members of that same ukulele band we had heard in the morning. But now they had added a guitar and a tambourine.
This kind of “running in to people you know” happens a lot here… and that’s what gives it the small town vibe for me.
