Boyds Untethered

Oil production is a big piece of the economy in this part of Texas. On a clear day, we can see working oil rigs on the horizon from the beach right here in Galveston. This rig is right in the harbor, in downtown Galveston.... not a working rig but in dry dock for repairs and/or maintenance I believe.

The Galveston Pleasure was originally built as an entertainment center  during WW II and featured popular music, performance acts, extreme diving shows, a carnival midway, an aquarium and a fishing pier on its lower deck. The original pier was severely damaged by a Hurricane Carla in 1961 and replaced by the Flagship Hotel.  But when Hurricane Ike destroyed the hotel in 2008 the opportunity to revitalize the historic pleasure pier had arrived.

There is a long history of trains in Galveston. Since 1820 there has been a need to connect the seaport here with Houston and the rest of the world. The trains look a lot different today vs way back then.  But there are still a lot of them and they are still to be found near the port.
