One of the great things about living in a resort are the services we have that are well in excess of what you would expect for our population of 50,000. Take restaurants for example. Our 100 Things to Do in Galveston book highlights 22 restaurants in the Food and Drink section. They cover the full spectrum from fancy to local, expensive to economical and cover a vast variety of different food types too. We have visited and enjoyed a number of those on the list. B ut our most recent favorite is one of the many, many restaurants on the island that are not even listed in that guide. We have been to the Gypsy Joynt twice now and have found this locally owned and family run restaurant to have interesting decor, great service and food that is both well made and unique.

I have always wanted to ride a Segway… and a few weeks ago we got to do just that. And, to make it even cooler… it was a historic tour of old Galveston. As it turns out, I may have done it, just in the nick of time… as all that I read tells me that they have stopped making the Segway. It’s a pretty cool ride… built on technology that was originally designed for self-balancing wheel chairs.  For those who haven’t tried it. You “drive” it by leaning your weight and the handle bars… forward to go, backwards to stop and left and right to turn.  Even easier than it sounds, as the whole deal is based on a self-balancing gyro. Pretty hard to screw up if you don’t run into anything or jump off in a panic.
