Boyds Untethered

There is a guy here in Galveston who teaches sandcastling classes on the beach. He comes to the beach, by appointment I believe and coaches you through a building process. This evening I learned his name is Everett… when I met a couple of his students on the beach. They were the builders of this fine structure. I have seen other sculptures that were created under Everett’s tutelage… they were all good but nothing that approaches this masterpiece.

Our long time  friends  Jay and Sue gave us the wine glass for an anniversary. Our 2yr old friend, from the archery range, Annabelle picked the rose for us from her garden. I think they go pretty well together… and how lucky are we.

When you live in a small town and Galveston is definitely one of those… you can spend Thursday evening at the rec center band shell listening to the concert. This is the Joybirds… a very good local rock and blues band. And when your small town is a resort town too… you can get some twilight pixtures of the amusement park (Pleasure Pier) between sets.

A few weeks ago the USCGC Eagle was in port here in Galveston. Each summer it deploys with cadets from the United States Coast Guard Academy and candidates from the Officer Candidate School for periods ranging from a week to two months. These voyages fulfill multiple roles. The primary mission is the training of cadets and officer candidates but the ship also performs a public relations role for the Coast Guard and the United States.

Sometimes, when you’re walking along taking pixtures… it’s an old stump that calls to you. So much texture and character, you kind of wish it could talk… so you could hear the story of what it’s seen in its life.

  Not too long ago we took a driving trip that we titled “Tour of the South”. Our adventure took us through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The eastern end of our trip was Savanah GA and here’s a picture from the river walk there.  Doesn’t this veil of Spanish Moss say “southern”…  just about as loud as it can. Savanah is built along the Savanah River which divides Georgia from South Carolina. It is also pretty much a costal and port city on the Atlantic Ocean too. Savanah was founded in 1733 when travel and commerce was across the oceans and up the rivers.  It’s the oldest city in Georgia and has all the history, architecture and culture that goes along with having been around for almost 300 years.
