Boyds Untethered

There aren’t many things about Galveston that we don’t like. We have the beachfront lifestyle we were looking for in a city big enough to have all we need. But at the same time we have a small town feel. If I did have a complaint it would be about the sunsets. The quality is fine but the beach is on the wrong side (east) of the island to get great ones, daily. Some say I should get up to see the sunrises.... but a sun event needs a beer and that still seems wrong for breakfast. But all that being said, this one’s not too bad.... so maybe more after dinner beach time is in order as the warm weather comes.

Several times a week, our walk along the beach takes us to the West. On each of those walks, I get to visit one of my favorite photographic sites…. under the pier at Jimmy’s. The view there is never quite the same, twice in a row. The level of the water, the direction and quality of the light, wave action, atmospheric conditions and  the activities of the people in the area.... all make for different scenes.  On this day, we found a surfer, under the pier, making his way out to the waves.

Water always makes the world more interesting. When it’s an ocean that is even more true. Things sail by, birds fly over, people play on, in and next to it.  The waves are different every day.... the sand changes with the tides.  Sometimes the ocean even brings you things.... i n this case a Southern Ray, although this one’s a little bit dead.

Many of the homes that we saw in the small towns during our drive thru LA, MS and AL had pier and beam foundations. This kind of foundation helps to protect the home from floods, high tides and moisture damage. It also creates a crawl space…. that gives electricians and plumbers access to the pipes and wires after installation for easy repairs. Finding, removing or preventing termites is easier too with pier and beam foundation too.
